The Pirate Post
In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find a message from the administration, updates from our information specialist, counselor, art teacher, nurse, and educational technologist, as well as school news, November events, lunch menus, and additional resources.
Dear Families,
As we move into the second quarter, we’re excited about the progress our students are making each day! To keep the momentum going, please remember to read with your child daily and reach out to teachers to check in on their progress. With colder weather upon us, be sure your child is dressed appropriately to stay comfortable both inside and outside the classroom. Flu season is here, so consider visiting the clinics on post for flu vaccines—staying healthy helps support consistent learning. For updates on upcoming events, follow our school’s Facebook page. This November, let’s take time to be thankful and honor our veterans who have served our country, protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.
Warm regards,
Bronwynn Crutchfield, Principal
Dr. Donald Rush, Assistant Principal
We are busy in the art room this November.
We are wrapping up our art fundraiser, Art To Remember. Early ordering ends November 1st! This ensures you will receive your products by the 1st week of December. Late ordering will continue until January 1st. The date you order may determine when you receive those products. These products make excellent gifts for any time of year.
We will finish studying our art element “line” and move on to “shape, color, and value” in the coming weeks. Grade levels will produce artworks inspired by Native American history or Autumn during the Month of November. I’m always excited to see what our students create!

Fostering Thanks and Giving All Year Long
The season of Thanks and Giving Provides a wonderful opportunity to foster, teach and model empathy, caring, gratitude and appreciation. The books Thanks and Giving: Native American Good Morning Message, Boxes for Katje, Marlo Thomas and Friends Thanks & Giving All Year Long and The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks are beautifully illustrated and are stories to build character and promote mindfulness. The Berenstain Bears and the Adventures from the Book of Virtues video series also promote social and emotional competence and help children learn resiliency. These books can be found on Youtube.

Things to Remember...
- Students in grades K - 2 have a checkout limit of two books (unless other arrangements are made).
- Students in grades 3 -5 have a checkout limit of three books (unless other arrangements are made).
- Suggestion: students should always keep their books in their backpacks when they are reading them. This prevents the books from getting lost or damaged. Overdue notices are emailed weekly. Please check for emails regarding overdue books.
- Parents need to provide a replacement book if a student loses or damages a book. We do not accept cash for books. Instead, we request that you replace the book with another age-appropriate book. It does not have to be the same book. In some cases, if the book is part of a popular series, we as parents to consider doing a direct replacement of the book. Only undamaged hardcover book (no ripped pages, writing, crayon marks, or frayed edges) published after 2014 can be accepted as a replacement. WE ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT PAPERBACK COPIES. Thank you for helping us maintain our Information Center book collection.
- We will have several Family Reading Day events this year. These events occur during the day, and all are invited. More information will be provided at a later date.

Tips for Being a Positive Digital Citizen
In today's digital world, it's essential for our students to understand and practice positive digital citizenship. Here are some helpful tips to guide them:
- Be Respectful Online: Always use kind and polite language. Treat others as you would like to be treated, even in the virtual world.
- Protect Personal Information: Never share your personal information, such as your address, phone number, or passwords, online.
- Think Before You Post: Remember that once something is online, it can stay there forever. Make sure your posts and comments are respectful and appropriate.
- Be Aware of Cyberbullying: Stand up against cyberbullying by not participating in it, reporting it to a trusted adult, and supporting those who are affected.
- Use Technology Responsibly: Follow the rules and guidelines set by your teacher and parents regarding internet use and device time.
Encouraging our students to follow these tips will help them become responsible and positive digital citizens.
