Shughart Elementary's Treasure Trove of News.In this month’s newsletter, you’ll find a message from the administration, updates from our information specialist, art teacher, PE teacher, music teacher, nurse, and educational technologist, as well as school news, December events, the lunch menu, and additional resources.
Dear Students, Staff, and Families,
As we enter the final month of the year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to each of you. December is a time for reflection, celebration, and making cherished memories with loved ones.
I encourage everyone to reflect on the accomplishments we've made thus far. There are so many points of growth that each of us can share. We all know more now than we did at the start of the year. Let's also consider the accomplishments yet to be made through the continued hard work from both teachers and students. Maintaining excellence isn't easy, but you've been successful thus far. Keep up the good work!
As you move through the days ahead, be intentional to make memories in ways that will enhance student growth, whether it's through reading together, exploring new hobbies, or simply spending quality time with one another.
Please note that school will be closed on December 9, 2024, for staff development. Additionally, our Holiday break will begin on December 23 and continue through January 3. We hope you take this time to relax, recharge, and enjoy special moments with your families.
Let's all do our best to stay healthy and safe during this season. Your well-being is our top priority, and we look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year, refreshed and ready to learn.
Happy Holidays and best wishes for a wonderful December!

Art Fundraiser Update!
Our art fundraiser orders will be here any day! As soon as I get them, I’ll distribute them as your child comes to art with their class. Once you see these products, you’re going to want more. Late ordering goes through January 1st. Just head to ArtToRemember.com and search for your child’s name, enter their online order code, or upload artwork from home and start shopping!
What’s Happening in the Art Room?
Art club will begin working on a winter scene for the glass display case in the main hall. It will be a constantly changing work of art. We will continue adding to it through winter.
Kindergarten and 1st grade have been art investigators. We learned that you can draw anything if you look for clues. In this case, clues were shapes. We looked at people and cats. Then, we simplified them into shapes to draw them. It is a big step in learning to draw!
2nd and 3rd Grade is finishing making a game called The Native American Stick Game. It is a game that includes Native American history, addition skills, and using symbols to tell a story. Most of all, it is fun!
4th and 5th grade are finishing an abstract lesson focusing on artist Piet Mondrian. This lesson focused on including math vocabulary such as parallel lines, perpendicular lines, and right angles. We put them to work on paper. We discussed color theory and put a unique twist on Mondrian’s famous art style.
