Shughart Elementary recently celebrated an exciting week of coding activities. The week kicked off with Tech T-shirt Tuesday, where students and staff wore t-shirts showcasing various technology themes. It was a true tech celebration!
From December 9-13, our third, fourth, and fifth graders participated in the Hour of Code, a global movement aimed at introducing students to the basics of coding. Mrs. Sease, our Educational Technologist, facilitated these sessions using code.org's Music Lab: Jam Session. Through this engaging platform, students learned the fundamentals of coding while creating their own unique beats. Students enjoyed their opportunity to share their jam sessions with classmates, showcasing their creativity and newfound skills.
Our morning broadcast also taught students how coding can affect the real world. It featured a segment on TIME's 2024 Kid of the Year, Shaniya Gill. Students were inspired by Shaniya's story of using code to develop her groundbreaking invention to prevent house fires.Â
Shughart Elementary's Hour of Code week sparked curiosity and creativity among our students. We look forward to continuing our journey in technology and coding, empowering our students to become the innovators of tomorrow.
