Math and Muffins: A Fun Learning Experience at Shughart Elementary

At Shughart Elementary, we believe in creating engaging and interactive learning experiences for both students and their families. Our recent "Math and Muffins" event for second grade was a perfect example of this commitment.
Math and Muffins is an opportunity where parents are invited to join their children in the classroom to learn about the math concepts being taught. Recognizing that the methods of teaching math have evolved significantly, this event helps bridge the gap between how parents learned math and the strategies used today.
Today's focus was on adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. Parents and students explored various strategies to solve these problems, including illustrating on a number line and drawing models. These hands-on activities not only made learning fun but also provided parents with valuable insights into the current approaches to math education.
One of the highlights of the event was the interactive math games. Parents and children teamed up to practice the new strategies they had learned, turning math practice into an enjoyable and collaborative experience.Â
Math and Muffins was a fantastic way for parents to engage with their child's education and discover new ways to approach math problems. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, fostering a love for learning and strengthening the home-school connection.
Thank you to all the parents who participated and made this event a success. We can't wait to see you at our next Math and Muffins!
