On Law Day, Shughart Elementary had the opportunity to host a special event that brought the legal system to life for our third-grade students. Airmen from the Pope Air Force legal office performed a mock trial titled Airmen vs. Goldilocks. This engaging activity aimed to educate students about the elements of a trial in a fun and interactive way.

Our third-grade students took on the important role of the jury, while our PE teacher, Ms. Brocious, presided as the judge. The mock trial centered around Goldilocks, who was charged with trespassing and property damage. The witnesses included Mama Bear, Papa Bear, Baby Bear, and Goldilocks herself. Each witness provided their testimony, and key pieces of evidence, such as the porridge bowl and Baby Bear's broken chair.

Students listened attentively as the story unfolded from Goldilocks' perspective. After hearing all the testimonies and examining the evidence, the students deliberated on Goldilocks' guilt or innocence. They shared their opinions and then cast their votes. Despite some differing views, the majority ultimately found Goldilocks guilty.

As a special treat, each student received a gavel squishie, compliments of the Pope Air Force legal team.

This mock trial was a fantastic way for our students to learn about the judicial process, the importance of evidence, and the role of a jury. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the airmen from Pope Air Force legal office for making this educational experience possible.
