Students and staff at Shughart Elementary School came together in a heartfelt celebration of Veterans Day, honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s military personnel through a schoolwide assembly filled with music, ceremony, and patriotic pride.

The event was thoughtfully organized by a dedicated team of educators: Ms. Brocious (Physical Education), Ms. Castle (Music), Ms. Crutchfield (Principal), Dr. Ray (Information Specialist), and Mr. Reeves (Art). Held in the school gymnasium, the assembly began with opening remarks from Principal Crutchfield, who welcomed students and guests and reflected on the importance of honoring veterans.

Students sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and saluted the American flag, followed by a brief educational segment explaining the significance of Veterans Day and how it is observed across the nation. Veterans among the school’s staff were recognized with certificates of appreciation, acknowledging their contributions both in uniform and in the classroom.

Special guests from Pope Army Airfield were also honored during the ceremony. The Airmen received certificates of appreciation and were warmly thanked for their service, reinforcing the school’s commitment to recognizing local military heroes.

The assembly concluded with a powerful visual tribute: students processed to the front of the school, each placing a small American flag into the ground. Together, the flags formed the letters “USA,” creating a striking symbol of unity and gratitude.

The event left a lasting impression on the Shughart Elementary community, deepening students’ understanding of Veterans Day and instilling a sense of respect for those who serve.

Shughart Elementary proudly salutes all veterans. Thank you for your service.
